Welcome to Saint George Island United Methodist Church!
The Friendliest Congregation in Florida!

St. George Island United Methodist Church is located on the first barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Apalachicola Bay. SGIUMC is a small-membership church with a BIG HEART and an active mission-oriented congregation of all ages and stages in life. On Sundays at 10 a.m. we offer a true "Come-As-You-Are" worship experience. Relaxed casual beachware is the norm here. The congregation is a mix of year-round and part-time residents, as well as visitors to the island. Our relaxed, friendly worship is followed by a casual fellowship with snacks every Sunday. During the week we are busy with a variety of social and mission opportunities, serving island residents, as well as residents of the surrounding community of Eastpoint. At SGIUMC you are not only welcome-you are family, no matter where you live! Join us!

Our History

HOW WE STARTED: Each summer from1971-1980, the First United Methodist Church of Apalachicola maintained a preaching mission on St. George Island. Seminarians were called ont o preach to people who would meet under an arbor of palm fronds. In the fall of 1984, Reverend Don McMullian, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Apalachicola began a home Bible Study that met in the congregation's homes. From the small start of 16 members, St. George Island UMC was officially chartered on May 26, 1992. In June 2007, SGUMC forrmed a cooperative parish with its sister church FUMC of Apalachicola. The church split in 2015 and an interim experienced pastor was appointed.
